Description
Ferdinand's works in Germany's Saar, a region better known for fine Riesling, and that vinous heritage runs through this quince expression: the base spirit comes from grapes grown in the Saar Valley's celebrated vineyards, lending a fine, elegant edge. Fully ripe quinces are hand-picked locally and distilled in small, traditionally worked stills, gently enough to keep the fruit's natural perfume intact.
The nose is intense with fresh quince, a subtle floral note and a light fruity sweetness behind it. The palate is fresh and lively, a clear quince flavour carrying fine acidity and a round, gentle sweetness in easy balance, before a soft, long finish keeps a hint of orchard freshness. Lovely poured neat after dinner, or alongside apple strudel, a fruit tart or a cheese board.
