Description
Fercullen is the label of the Powerscourt Distillery in Co. Wicklow, whose founding distiller Noel Sweeney spent decades making grain whiskey at Cooley in Co. Louth, and its aged releases draw on stock laid down there. This 15 Years Old single grain was bottled in 2022 for the Irish market, a limited outturn of 252 bottles at full cask strength.
Cooley's column stills run a mash led by maize, producing a light, sweet spirit that takes ex-bourbon American oak beautifully. Fifteen years in cask turn it toward dense toffee, coconut, ripe banana and vanilla custard, and at an undiluted 56.8% those flavours arrive concentrated, unfolding with a drop of water into gentler citrus and cream. It is a rare chance to taste mature Cooley grain at the strength it left the cask.
