Augalevada is the first certified biodynamic winery in Galicia’s Ribeiro, run by Iago Garrido and Liliana Fernandez. This barrel-fermented Albarino is fresh and vital, with lemon, grapefruit and a green, herbal lift.
Description
Fazenda Agricola Augalevada, run by Iago Garrido and Liliana Fernandez, is the first certified biodynamic winery in the D.O. Ribeiro in inland Galicia. Ribeiro sits along river valleys on granite and slate soils, with an Atlantic-influenced climate tempered by its position further from the coast, giving whites that are fresh and aromatic with firm acidity. Albarino here shows a greener, more citrus-driven profile than the plusher coastal versions of Rias Baixas. Biodynamic farming treats the estate as a closed living system and keeps the soils and fruit expressive. This cuvee is barrel-fermented, with fermentation carried out in wood rather than steel, which builds texture and a fine lees character while keeping the wood flavour restrained. The wine is pale with a green tint. The nose is vivid and energetic, with lemon, grapefruit and a green, herbal edge. The palate is fresh and taut, the barrel adding body without softening the drive, and the finish is long, mineral and citrus-fresh. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees. This is a white that rewards fresh, salty food.
