Faustino VII Rosado is a Rioja blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha from estate vineyards around Laguardia and Oyón. Made by traditional methods, it is a fresh, fruit-forward rosé of ripe strawberry, raspberry and red cherry.
Description
Faustino is one of the longest-established names in Rioja, drawing on decades of experience in the region. This rosé comes from the winery's own vineyards, some 650 hectares spread between the towns of Laguardia and Oyón in Rioja Alavesa, the cooler western reaches of the appellation under the Sierra de Cantabria. The blend is Tempranillo at 80 percent with Garnacha, two grapes that give a rosé bright red fruit and a touch of body. The harvest and winemaking follow the traditional methods the winery has refined over many years, with a short period of skin contact to draw the colour and cool fermentation in stainless steel to keep the wine fresh. The limestone-clay soils and altitude of the zone supply the acidity that holds the style together. The colour is bright pink. The nose is fruit forward, with ripe strawberry, raspberry and red cherry. The palate is dry and easy, with juicy red fruit, fresh acidity and a clean, citrus-edged finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It suits roast chicken, grilled pork and lighter fish dishes.
