Description
Fattoria Selvapiana makes this Chianti Rufina in the smallest zone within the Chianti denomination, a cool, elevated pocket east of Florence with roots in the Middle Ages. This is the estate's foundational wine, built on Sangiovese with Canaiolo and other local red varieties in support. Rufina's altitude and cooler nights slow ripening and hold onto acidity, giving the wine its freshness and a lighter, more savoury frame than Chianti from warmer ground. The wine is aged in wood, a measured period that rounds the tannin and adds a gentle savoury depth while keeping the fruit forward and the style approachable young. The colour is a bright ruby. The nose shows cherry and red berries with dried herbs and a touch of tobacco, set on an earthy base typical of the zone. The palate is medium bodied, with fresh acidity, fine tannin and a clean, savoury finish that makes it a versatile food wine. Serve at around 16 to 17 degrees in a standard red glass. It works across a wide range of everyday Tuscan and Mediterranean dishes.
