Description
Fattoria Sardi is the project of Mina Samouti and Matteo Giustiniani, who met studying oenology at Bordeaux and now farm organically in the Colline Lucchesi, in north-west Tuscany near Lucca. Vermentino thrives in this warm coastal-influenced setting, giving citrus and stonefruit fruit with a saline, herbal character and firm acidity. Four months on the lees shapes the texture: contact with spent yeast, which slowly breaks down and releases mannoproteins, rounds the palate and adds a savoury depth, while the wine is held without oak to keep the fruit and freshness clear. Vermentino also carries a natural bitter-almond note on the finish, a signature of the grape. The wine is pale straw in the glass, with lemon, white peach and dried herbs on the nose over white flowers and citrus peel. The palate is dry and fresh, carrying citrus and stonefruit through a saline, mineral finish with a faint almond bite. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a standard white glass.
