Fasoli Gino is an organic family estate in the Classico heartland of Valpolicella, in the Veneto, and this Corte del Pozzo is the fresh, everyday style of the region, made from Corvina and Rondinella. Unlike the estate's Ripasso, this wine is not passed over Amarone skins, so it keeps the bright, juicy character that Valpolicella is known for. The Classico zone, in the original hills of the appellation, gives wines with red cherry fruit and a savoury, mineral edge. The wine spends ten months in oak, a restrained ageing that softens the tannin and adds a light spice while leaving the fruit fresh and primary. The colour is a bright ruby red. The nose shows black cherry, red currant and plum, with a subtle note of cinnamon and a dusty, earthy lift. The palate is light to medium bodied, with crisp acidity, fine tannin and a clean, savoury finish. At 13% it is bright and digestible, and can take a light chill in warm weather. Serve at 15 to 16C. It is an easy, versatile food red.
