A Jamaican based rum finished in Denmark by Fanoe Skibsrom at 41.5 percent, soft and lightly sweet with vanilla, pineapple and mild herbs over peppery spice, an easy sociable table rum rather than a deep sipper.
Description
Fanoe Skibsrom is a small Danish maritime rum house on the island of Fano, and Havmanden is built on Jamaican rum brought in and finished in Denmark. The base spirit is column distilled, and the bottling lands at a gentle 41.5 percent, presented as an approachable, easygoing rum rather than a heavy hitter.
Despite Jamaican roots, the funk is dialled right back in favour of softness and a fair amount of sweetness, which surprises on first pour. The nose shows vanilla, pineapple, a light ester lift and a vegetal note, the palate turns sweet with vanilla, honey and roasted tones, and the finish carries gentle spice, sweetness and a peppery edge. The body stays light. It is best understood as a sociable, sweet leaning table rum for relaxed evenings, comfortable and undemanding rather than a complex Jamaican showcase.
