An eighteen year old Foursquare single cask from Famille Ricci at cask strength, the house coconut and caramel meeting a glue-like ester lift, with banana and roasted oak on a firm, nutty finish at 60.1%.
Description
Famille Ricci bottled this single cask of Foursquare, an eighteen year old Barbados rum from the 2005 vintage out of Richard Seale's St Philip distillery. It is a single blended rum, pot and column in the classic island style, bottled at cask strength and without added sugar in keeping with Foursquare's strict no-additives stance.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows the house signature of coconut, caramel and oak lifted by a glue-like ester note that speaks to the pot-still side of the blend, with banana and vanilla on the palate. The finish turns roasted and nutty with a pleasant bitterness and a touch of leather. At 60.1% it is firm and characterful, a stable, recognisable 2005 Foursquare with a little extra ester edge, well suited to drinkers who want the Bajan style dry, full proof and with some grip on the finish.
