Description
Famille Ricci Beenleigh Rare Single Cask 2007 draws on Beenleigh, one of Australia's oldest registered distilleries, in a single cask selected and bottled by Famille Ricci. Distilled in 2007 and aged eighteen years in a single ex bourbon barrel, it is offered at a full cask strength 66.2% with no added sugar declared, a rare and characterful Australian molasses rum.
The single barrel shows in its clarity of fruit. The nose is led by yellow orchard fruit, ripe peaches and mirabelle plum over fresh young wood, while the palate keeps that peach and apple core and folds in chocolate, a fine woodiness and a floral edge. The finish stays woody and fruity with citrus and cocoa. The high proof carries plenty of intensity yet the fruit holds its own, and a few drops of water coax out the orchard freshness. One to explore for those curious about Australian rum.
