A very sweet Panamanian molasses sipper of coconut, vanilla and pineapple over almond and honey, bottled by Famille Naud at a soft 40% and sweetened enough to read closer to a tropical cocktail than a dry aged rum.
Description
Hidden Loot is a Panamanian column still rum selected by the Cognac house Famille Naud, made from molasses and built for easy, dessert leaning drinking rather than dry contemplation. Panama is the soft, vanilla and spice corner of the Spanish style world, and this leans into that approachability, smoothing off any rough edges and arriving rounded and gentle at 40%.
The spirit is light and clean by design, so most of the character sits on top rather than deep in the spirit. Coconut, vanilla and pineapple lead, backed by honey and a marzipan sweetness, with a little cinnamon spice and a faintly soapy edge on the close. It is noticeably sweet and reads as a ready made cocktail base, fine over ice or stretched with a mixer, and best approached as a soft, fruity crowd pleaser rather than a serious sipping rum.
