Familia Torres Waltraud 2024

Familia Torres produces Waltraud from Riesling grown in the D.O. Penedès in Catalonia, choosing higher, cooler vineyard sites that suit this aromatic northern grape. Riesling holds its acidity and develops fine floral and citrus aromatics when ripened slowly in a cool setting, and the Mediterranean climate here is tempered by altitude to keep the fruit fresh and precise. On arrival the grapes are pressed and the must is fermented in stainless steel under controlled low temperatures, which preserves the delicate primary aromatics and the grape's natural fruit. There is no oak, so the varietal character stays clear and unadorned. It shows pale lemon with green tints, a nose of lime, green apple, white peach and white flowers with a faint floral perfume. The palate is light bodied and just off-dry, with bright citrus and apple fruit balanced by crisp acidity, finishing clean and delicate. This is a fresh, aromatic Riesling made in an approachable style. Serve well chilled at 8 to 9 degrees. It works with lightly spiced dishes, fresh fish, salads and mild soft cheeses.
