False Bay makes this Stellenbosch rosé from Cinsault and Mourvèdre, fermented with whole bunches for freshness and fragrance. Organic and dry, it shows ripe strawberry, cherry and an orange peel lift.
Description
False Bay Vineyards is the independent label of Waterkloof founder Paul Boutinot, built around old vineyards in South Africa's Coastal Region and made to a clean, affordable, organic standard. This rosé comes from Cinsault and Mourvèdre grown around Stellenbosch, where the cooling influence of nearby False Bay moderates the Cape's warm summers and helps preserve acidity. Whole bunch fermentation, with intact clusters in the press and tank, is a delicate, low extraction technique that keeps colour pale and emphasises fresh, fragrant aromatics over structure. Farming is organic and the wine is vegan, fermented in stainless steel with no oak. The colour is a bright pale pink. The nose is open and fruit driven, with ripe strawberries and cherries, a citrus hint of orange peel and a floral top note. The palate is dry and refreshing, light bodied with crisp acidity, red currant fruit and a clean finish. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees. It makes an easy aperitif and partners salads, grilled fish and lighter poultry.
