Description
Mas del Perie is the estate Fabien Jouves founded in 2006 on the limestone slopes of Trespoux, above Cahors in south-west France. He farms his plots biodynamically and vinifies naturally, without oenological additives and on the principle of minimal intervention. This bottling is a natural red classified as Vin de France, built mainly on Jurancon Noir, an old regional variety, sometimes with a little Malbec. The vineyards sit on limestone and clay, free-draining soils that hold freshness in a climate warm by day and cool at night, keeping alcohol modest at 12.5 percent. Natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts and low sulphur shapes a wine made to be drunk young and with pleasure, where transparency of fruit matters more than structure or oak. It pours a light, bright red, with a nose of raspberry, redcurrant and red cherry lifted by cracked pepper, dried herbs and a stony minerality. The palate is light and juicy, low in tannin and fresh, with a crisp, savoury finish. Serve at 14 to 15 degrees, lightly chilled. It suits charcuterie, pork and lighter dishes across the table.
