Excellence Rhum Maison La Mauny 2015

Excellence Rhum Maison La Mauny 2015 is an independent bottling of Martinique agricole from La Mauny, the large heritage estate at Riviere-Pilote, selected by Excellence Rhum. Distilled in 2015 from fresh-pressed cane juice and bottled at cask strength, it is around three years old, youthful but anything but timid at 62.8%.

Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it pours with multi-layered dried fruit, fig, apricot and raisin, alongside fragrant wood, menthol herbs and a peppery, tobacco-edged backbone. The creole column distillation keeps the cane bright underneath, while the high strength pushes the spice and wood forward, making this a slow sipper rather than a casual pour. Certified unsweetened, it rewards time in the glass and a few drops of water to tame the heat and let the dried fruit expand.
