Description
Excellence Rhum Carrere Montebello AGML is a twenty year old single cask from the Carrere distillery, home of the Montebello label on Basse-Terre in Guadeloupe, bottled for Excellence Rhum's 2023 anniversary collection. The AGML designation marks it as a blend of cane-juice and molasses rum, an approach Guadeloupe's looser IGP rules permit and one Carrere is known for.
Distilled on a column still and matured two decades in ex-bourbon oak, the long tropical ageing has produced a soft, elegant rum rather than an oak-heavy one. The nose offers spice and tropical fruit; the palate turns creamy and fruity with a woody, layered depth that shows its years gracefully. Bottled without sweetening at 43.8%, it stays dry and refined, the molasses portion adding body while the cane juice keeps it lifted. A patient, sippable expression of mature Guadeloupe rum.
