Ettore Germano makes this Langhe Nebbiolo in Piedmont from fruit grown in the hills of the Langhe. Aged six months in stainless steel, it is a fresh, perfumed young Nebbiolo with red cherry, rose and a fine grip.
Description
Ettore Germano has made wine in the Langhe in Piedmont since 1856, across four generations, in hills that are now a World Heritage Site. This Langhe Nebbiolo comes from the noble grape of Barolo and Barbaresco grown on the calcareous marl soils of the region, which give Nebbiolo its perfume, high acidity and firm tannins. The continental climate and the cool nights of these hills draw out a long ripening that keeps the aromatics fresh. To show the grape young and bright, the wine is aged only six months in stainless steel rather than oak, an inert vessel that adds no wood flavour and preserves the pale colour and fresh red fruit. The colour is a light garnet with an orange tinge typical of the variety. The nose leads with fresh red cherry, raspberry and a floral rose note, over dried herbs and a savoury earthiness. The palate is medium bodied with high acidity and the firm, fine tannins of Nebbiolo, finishing dry with a liquorice edge. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It pairs with game birds, mushroom dishes and hard cheese.
