Ettore Germano, a family estate working the Langhe since 1856, makes this Barbera d’Alba from vineyards at 300 to 400 metres in Piedmont. Bright and food-friendly, it shows ripe plum, blackberry and cherry with fresh acidity and a peppery, earthy edge.
Description
Ettore Germano is a Piedmont family estate that has worked the Langhe since 1856, now run by the fourth generation. This Barbera d'Alba comes from vineyards sitting between 300 and 400 metres above sea level, where the altitude and cool nights give a wide diurnal range that ripens the fruit while preserving Barbera's signature acidity. Barbera is a naturally high-acid, low-tannin grape, and the calcareous Langhe soils add lift and a savoury, earthy edge. The wine ages in oak, where measured oxygen exchange rounds the texture and adds a touch of spice without smothering the bright fruit, and the farming follows sustainable, low-intervention practices. The colour is a deep, vivid ruby. The nose shows ripe plum, blackberry and cherry with red berries, black pepper, liquorice and a clear note of countryside earth. The palate is fresh and juicy, with bright acidity, soft tannins and a clean, savoury finish that keeps the mouth watering. This is a classic Piedmont food red, made for the table rather than the cellar. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees, no decanting needed. It is built for pasta, roast pork and tomato-based dishes.
