Description
Etiris PB is a dry white from the small D.O. Alella, just north of Barcelona, made by Alta Alella from single variety Pansa Blanca, the local name for Xarel·lo. Alella sits close to the Mediterranean on sauló, a pale sandy granite soil that drains freely and lends the region's whites a mineral, saline character, while the sea moderates the climate and keeps the fruit fresh. The vineyards are farmed organically, and whole bunches are picked in clean, healthy condition for a short maceration at low temperature that gently extracts aroma from the skins without picking up bitterness or oxidation. A light pressing then yields the must, which is fermented in stainless steel at a controlled 15 degrees to keep the aromatics primary and the wine crisp. At 11.5 percent it is light and built for freshness. The colour is pale straw. The nose shows green apple, pear and white flowers over a stony, saline note, with the faint bitter almond that marks Xarel·lo. The palate is dry, light and fresh, with citrus peel and a mineral edge carried on clean acidity to a clean finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
