Description
Estévez Bodegas y Viñedos is a young project built on old ground, working century-old family vineyards in the well-regarded sites of Valtuille de Abajo in D.O. Bierzo. Versos de Valtuille is a single varietal Godello, a white grape that gives structure, ripe orchard fruit and a stony minerality on the slate and clay soils of these sheltered valleys. The Atlantic influence that reaches inland here keeps the wine fresh despite the warmth of the growing season. It is aged six months on its lees, split between stainless steel tanks and barrel. The steel preserves clean fruit and freshness, while the lees contact releases mannoproteins that add a creamy, rounded weight, and the barrel portion contributes a light savoury complexity without heavy oak. The colour is bright straw with green glints. The nose shows green apple, pear and white peach over white flowers and a faint bready note from the lees. The palate is textured and balanced, with fresh acidity and a saline, gently nutty finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It suits white fish, shellfish and poultry.
