Description
Espolon is a 100% Blue Weber tequila built by master distiller Cirilo Oropeza, its labels nodding to the engraver José Guadalupe Posada and the fighting cock that gives the brand its name. The reposado is matured for six months in American oak casks, longer than the two month minimum for the class, which lets the wood imprint clearly while the agave still holds its place.
The spirit is twice distilled in the standard fashion and bottled at 40%. American oak pushes vanilla, caramel and butterscotch over a backbone of cooked, juicy agave, with dry wood, pepper, citrus and an earthy spice giving the palate some grip. It is a fruit and barrel led reposado with enough structure to carry through cocktails, sweet on entry and drier through the finish.
