Espelt VidiVi is a crianza from D.O. Emporda, blending Merlot and Garnacha grown under the region’s strong Tramontana wind. Twelve months in French and American oak round out ripe red and black fruit, with a touch of vanilla and a warm, savoury finish.
Description
Espelt VidiVi is a crianza red from D.O. Emporda, made by Celler Espelt from a blend of Merlot and Garnacha. The region sits on the Costa Brava under the Tramontana, a strong northerly wind that dries the vines, keeps disease pressure low and helps healthy ripening, while mild winters and warm, sea-tempered summers shape the fruit. The wine is farmed sustainably and ages 12 months in French and American oak, where slow oxygen exchange rounds the tannins and adds vanilla, cedar and a warm baking spice. It is deep red, with ripe blackberry, plum and red cherry on the nose, lifted by herbs and a soft oak spice. The palate is medium to full bodied, with rounded fruit, moderate acidity and supple tannin running into a warm, savoury finish. The Garnacha brings ripe red fruit and warmth, the Merlot adds flesh and a softer middle. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It works with grilled pork, roast lamb, roasted vegetables and medium hard cheese.
