Description
Erre Punto is a young Rioja made by Remírez de Ganuza using carbonic maceration, blending Tempranillo, Garnacha and Viura from vines over 60 years old. The fruit is hand harvested into 12-kilogram boxes and chilled for 24 hours at 4 to 6 degrees before vinification, keeping it fresh on arrival. In carbonic maceration, whole uncrushed bunches ferment in a carbon-dioxide-rich environment, so fermentation begins inside each intact berry. This intracellular process produces a softer, brighter, low-tannin red with vivid red fruit and the characteristic juicy, slightly confected lift the method is known for. The old vines, despite the early-drinking style, give the wine depth beyond its youth. The colour is a bright red-purple. The nose is intense and fresh, with red berries, cherry and red currant and a light banana note typical of carbonic fermentation, over a faint earthy base. The palate is light, juicy and supple, with soft tannins and a clean, fruity finish at 13.5 percent alcohol. Serve lightly chilled at 13 to 15 degrees. It suits charcuterie, grilled pork and lighter dishes.
