Description
Migan is Envínate's Orotava Valley red, made by the four friends behind the project from old, long-neglected vineyards worked with respect for the land. The grape is native Listán Negro, grown on the volcanic slopes of northern Tenerife where the vines are often trained in the region's distinctive braided cordons. The dark volcanic soils drain quickly and hold little water, giving small, concentrated crops and a smoky, mineral signature, while the Atlantic setting and altitude bring cool nights and sea air that keep the wine fresh and aromatic at 13.5 percent. Fermentation with native yeasts, frequently including whole bunches, is followed by twelve months in oak, which settles the wine and rounds the tannins while leaving the fruit and minerality in front. It shows a bright medium ruby, with red berries, cherry and a little plum on the nose over black pepper, dried herbs and a smoky volcanic edge. The palate is fresh and medium-light, with fine, savoury tannins, lively acidity and a stony finish. This is a wine of freshness rather than weight. Serve lightly chilled at 15 degrees with poultry, pork or grilled fish.
