A young single barrel from Denmark, bottled at cask strength by the S.B.S team, dry and spicy with dark berries and citrus over smoky wood, tobacco and earth, with a bitter, peppery finish and clear youthful edges at 50.6%.
Description
Enghaven Rom S.B.S 2014 is a single cask molasses rum selected by 1423 under their Single Barrel Selection line, a Danish outfit known for transparent, detail led bottlings at natural strength. Distilled on a combination of pot and column stills and matured four years in an ex bourbon barrel, it is bottled unsweetened at cask strength, 50.6%, with no chill filtration to soften the edges.
The nose is fruity and spiced, raisin and prune meeting baking spices and a darker, earthier undertone. On the palate it turns dry and peppery, with dark berries, cigar leaf and a smoky, woody backbone, while the finish runs bitter and roasted with dried fruit. The youth shows, and the spirit reads a touch hot and untamed rather than fully resolved, so a small pour or a few drops of water helps it settle. A spicy, characterful detour for drinkers who like their rum dry and a little raw.
