Description
Embruix is the young red of Celler Vall-Llach, based at Porrera in the eastern part of D.O.Q. Priorat. It blends Garnacha Tinta with Cariñena, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, each variety vinified separately, from young vines between 6 and 12 years old. Priorat is defined by its llicorella soil, a dark slate and quartz schist that drains hard and reflects heat, forcing the roots deep and giving the wines their mineral, graphite signature. The steep terraces and warm days are balanced by cool nights, which keep the fruit fresh despite the southern Catalan heat. The wine ages fourteen months in French oak, where slow oxygen exchange firms the tannins and adds chocolate, toast and spice over the dark fruit. The colour is deep, near-opaque purple. The nose shows ripe dark plum, red fruit, chocolate and graphite, with black pepper and spice. The palate is full bodied and structured, with firm but ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a long, mineral finish. Serve at 17 to 18C, decanted at least half an hour ahead, with grilled red meat, lamb or aged cheese.
