Description
Savanna in Reunion makes agricole, molasses and Grand Arome rum, and this is a molasses-based single cask, selected and bottled by Elizabeth Yard at nine years from a 2013 vintage. Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at cask strength, it offers the dry, characterful side of the distillery in independent dress.
The profile leans fresh and herbal for an aged rum: a minty, dried-fruit nose over woody freshness, a palate of dried fruit and wood with a touch of sweetness and that same menthol lift, and a finish carrying dried fruit and a notably young, green wood note alongside a vegetal edge. The youthful oak gives it a slightly raw, lively edge rather than rounded polish. Bottled unsweetened at 50.6%, it shows some fire and benefits from a drop of water; a dry, spirited single cask for drinkers who like their molasses rum fresh and a little untamed.
