Elephant Gin began on journeys through Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa, and the brand still channels 15 per cent of its profits into African elephant conservation. This Orange & Cocoa edition is distilled in Germany in small batches, copper-pot style in an Arnold Holstein still, from 14 carefully chosen botanicals that include rare African ingredients and freshly picked apples from nearby orchards. Orange and cocoa join the line-up here, lending a delicate sweetness and depth.
The nose is fresh orange laced with cocoa and a hint of cinnamon. The palate is full-bodied and smooth, sweet citrus and cocoa meeting a delicate herbal note and a slightly spicy depth, before a long, soft finish of cocoa and lingering orange. Shake a Chocolate Orange Martini, or build a gin and tonic with quality tonic, a slice of orange and a square of dark chocolate.
