Elements Eight Platinum

Elements Eight Platinum is a white rum from Saint Lucia, built from pot and column molasses distillate, aged four years in Ex-Bourbon oak and then filtered to remove its colour before bottling at 40%. That filtration aims to keep a clear spirit while retaining some of the character the years in cask gave it.

The result is a light, fruity rum with sugarcane and a vegetal edge, though it leans firmly toward the spirit forward side. The nose is markedly alcoholic and medicinal with sugarcane underneath, and the palate keeps that alcoholic, medicinal character going alongside a metallic note and a touch of coconut, with some fruit emerging for those who look. It is a difficult rum to read, the filtration and youth leaving an honest if slightly raw white spirit. Tasters find it more fruity and characterful than many white rums while acknowledging its rougher edges, a mixing minded bottle for those who like a fresh, unpolished Saint Lucian base.
