Description
Element Lore is a single malt from the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth, released as R/1.0, the first outing for the line. The Great Northern, founded by John Teeling in 2015 inside the old Great Northern Brewery, makes triple distilled malt alongside its pot still and grain whiskeys, and this bottling shows that lighter, fruitier side of the house.
Maturation ran through ex-bourbon casks before Madeira and Moscatel wine casks added their darker sugars, so vanilla and orchard fruit pick up baked orange, raisin and a grapey sweetness. Bottled at 43% for the European market, it is a soft, approachable malt with no age statement, the wine wood doing the talking over a clean triple distilled spirit.
