Description
El Ron Prohibido Reserva 22 is a Mexican molasses rum built around the brand's solera style ageing, where older and younger spirit marry over time. It is a column still rum bottled at 40%, aimed squarely at drinkers who like their rum soft, rounded and on the sweeter side rather than dry and demanding.
The nose offers vanilla, candied fruit, barrel and brown sugar, and the palate follows with wood, leather and a clear sweetness. This is an additive forward, dessert leaning style in the Spanish heritage mould, so it is honest to call it sweet rather than complex, and it shows little of the heat or funk found in pot still rums. As a gentle, undemanding pour or a sweet mixer it does the job, though it stays squarely in easy going territory.
