El Reventón Nº 17 is a Garnacha from D.O. Cebreros in the Sierra de Gredos, grown on granite soils. Made in stainless steel and concrete with no oak, it shows blackberry, blueberry and a peppery freshness.
Description
El Reventón works in D.O. Cebreros, high in the Sierra de Gredos on the western side of Castilla y León. The Garnacha grows on decomposed granite, a poor sandy soil that drains fast and yields small, concentrated berries while keeping the wine light on its feet. Altitude and the cool mountain nights give a wide diurnal range, preserving acidity and the bright red fruit that marks Gredos Garnacha. This bottling came out of the 2022 vintage after the cellar lost a large volume of must to an accident, and the team rebuilt the wine from what remained. It is raised for around eleven months in stainless steel and concrete tanks rather than barrel, so there is no oak character to mask the fruit; the inert vessels hold the wine fresh and let the granite minerality come through. The colour is a bright cherry red. The nose offers wild blackberry, blueberry and a touch of crushed pepper. The palate is medium bodied with fine tannins, juicy acidity and a clean savoury finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, lightly chilled if you like. It pairs well with grilled white meats and charcuterie.
