This is El Reventón’s barrel-aged Garnacha from D.O. Cebreros, grown on granite in the Sierra de Gredos. Eleven months in oak give a more structured wine of red cherry, fine tannin and a savoury, mineral finish.
Description
El Reventón La Reina Cru Artesano comes from old Garnacha Tinta in D.O. Cebreros, in the Valle del Alberche on the granite slopes of the Sierra de Gredos. The decomposed granite drains hard and yields little, while altitude provides cool nights and a long, even ripening that keeps acidity firm and fruit precise. Farming is sustainable and the wine is aged for eleven months in oak barrels, a step up from the estate's lighter cuvée, which lends a finer, more layered texture and gentle structure through slow oxygen exchange in wood. The colour is medium ruby. The nose leads with red cherry and raspberry, dried herbs and a peppery, stony lift typical of Gredos granite. On the palate it is medium bodied and detailed, the tannins fine grained and the acidity bright, carrying a savoury, mineral finish rather than overt oak. This is a more serious expression of mountain Garnacha that can take a few years in bottle. Serve at 16 degrees in a Burgundy style glass, ideally decanted briefly, alongside roast lamb, beef or game.
