Description
El Origen de Prieto Pariente is made by Bodegas Prieto Pariente in Valladolid as a Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León. It is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon drawn from a single old-vine vineyard at Mucientes, on the plateaus above Valladolid in the D.O. Cigales zone. The soils are a mix of sands, limestones and gypsum-bearing marls resting on clays, a poor, free-draining profile that keeps yields low and the fruit concentrated, while the high continental plateau and its wide day-to-night temperature range hold fresh acidity. Old vines add depth and complexity to the blend. The wine is made in the Crianza style, with time in oak that softens the tannins through slow oxygen exchange and adds gentle spice while leaving the fruit in the lead. The colour is bright cherry red. The nose is fresh red berry and plum with cherry, black pepper, dried herbs, liquorice and a stony, earthy note. The palate is medium bodied and balanced, with supple tannins, lively acidity and a long, savoury, lightly spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It suits grilled meat, roast lamb and mushroom dishes.
