Description
El Mayor Extra Anejo Port Cask Aged is a 100% agave extra anejo tequila from Blue Weber grown in the southern Los Altos highlands of Jalisco, made by the Gonzalez family at Destiladora Gonzalez Lux. The long maturation, 42 months in former Portuguese port barrels, sits at the heart of this limited release of roughly 6000 bottles worldwide, and the cask choice steers it well past the usual oak vocabulary.
The pina is cooked in low pressure autoclaves and milled on a roller, then fermented in stainless steel without fibre and distilled twice in stainless pots fitted with copper coils. Three and a half years in port wood pushes the spirit toward dried fruit, vanilla, cinnamon and dark chocolate, with cooked agave still tracing the base and a notably mild mouthfeel. Bottled at 40%.
