Description
El Hato y el Garabato Otro Cuento is a white from D.O. Arribes, a small appellation on the Spanish-Portuguese border along the Duero gorges, made from the native Dona Blanca with other local white varieties. Arribes is defined by its granite and slate soils and a schist-influenced terroir, where old vines grow on steep, rocky ground and the deep river canyons moderate an otherwise continental climate. Dona Blanca, also known as Moza Fresca, gives a fresh, citrus-driven white with white-flower aromatics and firm acidity, well suited to this stony, high-relief landscape. The wine is barrel fermented, which adds a subtle texture and breadth to the mid-palate while ageing on the fermentation lees builds savoury depth, though the emphasis stays on freshness rather than obvious oak. The colour is pale straw. The nose shows green apple, lemon and white peach over white flowers and a hint of fresh dough. The palate is fresh and mineral, with green citrus fruit, a light textural weight from the barrel and a clean, stony finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits white fish, shellfish and green vegetables.
