Description
El Gran Legado de Vida reposado is produced at the Cascahuin distillery, NOM 1123, in El Arenal in the Jalisco lowlands, from ripe blue Weber agave grown in Michoacan. As with the blanco, the agave is steam cooked three days in stone ovens, roller milled, fermented open air in stainless and twice distilled, the second run in copper pot, before this portion goes to barrel.
It is rested 120 days, past the two month reposado minimum, in a mix of American oak that formerly held bourbon and sherry alongside French oak from ex Cognac VSOP casks. That spread of wood gives a nose of cooked agave, vanilla, caramel and leather, and a round, soft palate of cooked agave and butterscotch with light fruity and floral touches. Medium bodied, with a soft, structured finish at 40%.
