Description
White Oak is the single malt expression of Eigashima Shuzo, based at Akashi in Hyogo prefecture, where the company has held Japan's oldest whisky licence since 1919 and has produced malt whisky since the 1980s. This 8 Years Old is a single cask, cask strength release at 50%, matured in Oloroso sherry wood and bottled for the German market.
Eight years in Oloroso brings a depth of dark fruit, dried fig, walnut and warming spice that the younger releases in the White Oak programme only begin to suggest. Eigashima's clean and light base spirit provides a clear platform for the sherry influence to develop over the longer maturation period, resulting in a rounder, more complex expression with a lasting finish of dried raisin and gentle oak.
