Description
Eigashima Shuzo's White Oak single malt comes from the Akashi distillery in Hyogo prefecture, a site with Japan's oldest continuously held whisky licence and a single malt programme that has run since the 1980s. This 8 Years Old is a single cask release bottled at cask strength 55% for the Japanese domestic market, drawn from an Oloroso sherry cask.
The additional ABV at 55% brings an extra dimension of intensity to the sherry influence: dried fig, dark raisin, walnut and warming clove-spice all show with more concentration than in the lower-strength White Oak releases. Eigashima's clean, light distillate has absorbed the full character of eight years in Oloroso, producing a structured, fruit-rich whisky that finishes with a long, spiced warmth.
