Description
Eigashima Shuzo operates on the Akashi coast of Hyogo prefecture, home to Japan's oldest whisky licence issued in 1919, and produces the White Oak single malt in small, varied cask batches. This 5 Years Old is a single cask, cask strength release at 50%, matured in a red wine cask and bottled for the European market.
Red wine cask maturation brings a distinctive berry and dark fruit quality to the spirit, with red cherry, bramble and a subtle tannic grip layered over the distillery's typically clean and fresh new make character. The wine influence at five years is pronounced without being heavy, and the 50% strength allows the fruit-driven character to show clearly, finishing with a gentle dryness from the wine-soaked wood.
