Description
Eigashima Shuzo's White Oak range is built on single malt production at the company's Akashi distillery in Hyogo prefecture, the first site in Japan to hold a whisky licence, granted in 1919. This 5 Years Old is a single cask release at cask strength, matured in Oloroso sherry wood and exported to the European market.
The Oloroso cask contributes dried fruit, dark raisin and a gentle walnut note to Eigashima's typically clean and light base spirit. At 50% the whisky is approachable at cask strength, with the sherry influence providing warmth and body to a malt that, in the house style, favours delicacy and fruit over weight. The single cask bottling captures that particular barrel's full, uncut character.
