Description
Eigashima Shuzo holds Japan's oldest whisky licence, first issued in 1919, and has produced the White Oak single malt at its Akashi site in Hyogo prefecture since the 1980s. This 5 Years Old is a single cask, cask strength release at 50%, matured in Oloroso sherry wood and bottled for Europe.
The Oloroso cask lends dried fruit sweetness, a touch of walnut and gently warming spice to Eigashima's clean and relatively light distillate. The house style favours freshness and fruit in new make character, and the sherry wood adds structure and body without masking the underlying malt. At cask strength the whisky is concentrated yet approachable, with a finish that lingers on dried raisin and a soft spice.
