Description
A single cask, cask strength single malt from Eigashima Shuzo, distilled at the Akashi distillery in Hyogo and bottled in 2017 from cask number 1502 at 5 Years Old, 61% ABV, for the Japanese market. The tequila cask maturation sets this expression apart from the rest of the White Oak single cask range: agave spirit casks are unusual in Japanese whisky and lend a distinctive, earthy herbal dimension to the spirit.
Tequila barrels typically introduce dried agave, light herbal and earthy notes alongside the residual sweetness from the former spirit, sitting alongside whatever grain and maritime character the Eigashima new make brings. At 61% and five years of age, the impact is direct and unapologetic. No specific flavour notes were recorded, but the tequila wood at cask strength represents one of the more adventurous single cask releases in the Eigashima programme.
