Description
White Oak is the single malt expression of Eigashima Shuzo, a Hyogo prefecture producer based on the Akashi coast whose whisky licence, granted in 1919, predates all others in Japan. This 5 Years Old is a single cask release at cask strength 50%, drawn from an Oloroso sherry cask and selected for the Italian market.
Eigashima's base spirit is characteristically light and clean, and the Oloroso maturation introduces dried dark fruit, raisin, walnut and warming spice over that fresh cereal foundation. The 50% bottling strength is relatively accessible for a cask strength expression, carrying the sherry influence with enough clarity to let both the wood and the distillery character show through on a medium-length finish.
