Description
Eigashima Shuzo holds Japan's oldest whisky licence, issued in 1919, and has produced single malt at its Akashi distillery in Hyogo prefecture since the 1980s. This 5 Years Old bottled in 2019 is a vatted cask strength release finished in Oloroso sherry wood, aimed at the European market.
Unlike the single cask editions in the White Oak programme, this bottling combines material from more than one cask, still matured in Oloroso. The sherry influence offers the expected dried fruit, light tannin and warming spice over Eigashima's fresh and relatively delicate base spirit. At 50% it sits at the accessible end of cask strength, retaining the house character while benefiting from the sherry wood's generosity.
