Description
A 4 Years Old single malt from Eigashima Shuzo, produced at its Akashi distillery in Hyogo and bottled at cask strength, 50% ABV, for the German market under the White Oak label. The expression showcases the house's use of wine cask maturation, a practice Eigashima has developed alongside its better-known bourbon and sherry work.
Four years in a red wine cask draws berry fruit and a warm, softly tannic finish from the clean Eigashima new make, and at cask strength the wine wood influence comes through clearly and directly. The coastal Hyogo climate at the Akashi site gives a subtle maritime backdrop to the fruit-forward cask character. No specific flavour notes were recorded, but the red wine maturation at this age typically produces a vivid, approachable and fruit-led single malt.
