Description
Eigashima Shuzo, operating on the Akashi coast of Hyogo prefecture under Japan's oldest whisky licence, produces the White Oak Akashi single malt in a series of varied single cask bottlings for international markets. This 4 Years Old was distilled in 2016, matured in a red wine cask and bottled in 2020 at cask strength 62% for the Netherlands.
Four years in red wine wood has given the spirit a vivid berry and dark cherry character, set against Eigashima's typically clean and fresh distillate. The red wine cask influence is direct at this age, contributing fruit, a subtle tannic structure and a gently drying finish alongside the lighter malt backdrop. At 62% the whisky is intense and fruit-forward, in keeping with the style of the Akashi-labelled single cask releases in the White Oak programme.
