Description
White Oak is the single malt range of Eigashima Shuzo, operating on the Akashi coast of Hyogo prefecture under Japan's oldest continuously held whisky licence. This 4 Years Old was distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2014 as a single cask, cask strength release at 54%, matured in a white wine cask for the Japanese market.
Four years in white wine wood is a relatively short maturation, and the character here is bright and fruit-driven: pear, green apple and a delicate floral note sit over Eigashima's clean and light new make character. The white wine cask adds a gentle acidity and mineral freshness rather than sweetness, making this one of the more delicate and approachable single cask expressions in the White Oak range.
