Luis Anxo Rodríguez makes this Ribeiro field blend in Arnoia from Brancellao, Caíño Tinto, Ferrol, Garnacha Tintorera and Souson. Young and fresh, with six months in used oak, it shows bright red berries, pepper and a savoury, herbal lift.
Description
Eidos Ermos Tinto is a Galician red from Luis Anxo Rodríguez in Arnoia, Ourense, in D.O. Ribeiro. Rodríguez started his small family winery in 1988 and farms 2.7 hectares across 29 plots, working local varieties, recovering the sandy siliceous soils of the sloping terraces and keeping yields low through manual, environmentally minded viticulture. This is a field blend of Brancellao, Caíño Tinto, Ferrol, Garnacha Tintorera and Souson, native Galician grapes that give bright red fruit, floral aromatics and a peppery, savoury character. The sandy, free-draining soils and the Atlantic-influenced inland climate hold the alcohol low at 12 percent and keep acidity high, so the wine stays light and energetic. It is made in a young, fresh style with only six months in used French oak, enough to round the texture while leaving the fruit and freshness untouched. The colour is bright ruby, the nose offers red berries, cherry and redcurrant over black pepper, rose and wild thyme. The palate is light and crisp, with fine tannins and a clean, savoury finish. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, lightly cool, with light meats or charcuterie.
