Description
Ego Bodegas is the venture of Santos Ortiz and Ioana Paunescu, based in the Murcia region of south-eastern Spain, and Promesa Moscato is their light, aromatic Moscatel. The grape is Moscatel, the Muscat family variety grown widely across warm southern Spain, where hot, dry days and limestone-influenced soils give ripe, perfumed fruit. The wine is made young and fresh, fermented at cool temperatures and stopped with gentle residual sugar to keep it low in alcohol at 8 per cent. That cool, protective vinification preserves the grape's floral aromatics and fruit, giving an off-dry, easy style rather than a serious dry white. The colour is pale and bright. The nose is openly floral, with white flowers and rose over ripe peach and apricot and a hint of orange marmalade. The palate is soft and gently sweet, the ripe fruit balanced by enough fresh acidity to keep it clean rather than cloying, finishing light and aromatic. This is a wine for easy, chilled drinking. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees.
